The Governing Body Organisation

The Governing Body is organised into a Full Governing Body that meets once a term, and two sub committees Student Learning and Standards, and Finance, Personnel and Site. Student Learning and Standards meets every half term and Finance, Personnel and Site and Personnel once a term. There are a variety of smaller committees that are formed as and when required depending on the availability of Governors and the nature of the work required.

The Governors are responsible for the overall conduct of the school. Our role is strategic, setting the framework in which the Headteacher and Staff Operate.

Our key roles as Governors are –

  • set the aims and objectives for the school

  • set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives

  • set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives

  • monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives

  • be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher and school (a critical friend)

  • Agree budgets and staffing structures

  • Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher Appointments

The Governing Body is limited in number and is made up of Staff Governors and Parent Governors who are elected, Co-Opted Governors who are all appointed by the school and Local Authority Governors who are appointed by the LA.

At the Radcliffe we have 11 governors made up as follows –
